Agri Skills Cullinan Farm Training Centre

2-Year National Diploma

Enrol now for 2021

Open Day 8 October 2021

Agricultural training with a difference.

Complete your National Diploma in Animal or Plant Production at our new Farm and Training Centre in Cullinan, Gauteng.  Cullinan is only 45 km’s from Pretoria.

The future is here

Agri Skills Transfer has been offering the National Diploma in Agriculture since 2012 on a distance learning basis.  Several students have completed the programme since then.  We realised that the ultimate way forward will be to have an agricultural training facility where students have the best of both (training & practical contact sessions combined with workplace experience).  Thus, we are extremely excited to introduce the first training facility in South Africa to offer the above to students.

Training, practical, and workplace experience

The farm is unique in the sense that the following infrastructure is provided for agricultural training purposes:

  • Cattle
  • Poultry
  • Piggery
  • Sheep
  • Various fruit trees
  • Vegetable farming

Students will have one weekly (Monday – Friday) training session per month over a period of two years (see the training schedule).

Choose one of the following:

  • National Diploma: Animal Production SAQA ID 49011, NQF Level 5
  • National Diploma: Plant Production SAQA ID 49010, NQF level 5

Students will be required to attend the monthly sessions as part of their training.  During these sessions students will get the necessary support for their assignments that form part of their Portfolio of Evidence (PoE).  Students will have the opportunity to work in groups during these sessions.

It is recommended that you find yourself another practical site close to home to continue your workplace experience. This can be at various farms over the two years in your area where you obtain further skills.  Once you are a registered student, we will provide you with a letter in this regard to assist you with finding other workplace options.

Students are responsible for their own meals.

Learners staying on the farm will be responsible for their own meals during theory sessions. Other learners will have to bring their own packed lunch.

  • Learners who do not have a matric certificate should complete the National Certificate NQF Level 4 in Plant or Animal Production first.
  • Should be living or working on a farm – proof of some experience.
  • Theoretical training will be done via distance learning or contact sessions at Cullinan. Learners can also use the Cullinan farm for practical experience.

Full time

  • Workplace experience and theoretical training @ Cullinan Farm.
  • Learners attend scheduled theoretical sessions at our Cullinan training centre and have the opportunity to do workplace experience on the farm.
  • Learners must identify other workplace opportunities at other farms.
  • Starting date for our full time students – March 2021.

Learners can choose a combination of distance and full time methods.  Attend theory training sessions at Cullinan and do workplace experience on their own site or farm.

Practical workplace guideline

Learners who do not have a formal workplace will be able to register for the Diploma if you commit to a combination of the following practical guidelines during your 2-year course:

  • Learners will be able to make use of the Agri Skills Cullinan Farm Training Centre, to do practical on weekends and public holidays.
  • Learners, who have space in their backyard, can start a small animal or plant project (piggery, poultry, aquaculture, hydroponics, herb growing, beekeeping, aquaponics etc.). These projects will serve as practical and students will keep logbooks on their projects.
  • Learners can work on family farms.
  • Learners can work overseas in the agricultural industry.
  • Learners can get involved in Agricultural Community Projects.
  • Learners can also log visits to livestock auctions, farmer’s days, information days at different companies, as well as any other educational events.

We hope that the above guidelines will enable more students to follow their dream and be able to start a career in agriculture.
