Cleaning of the Working Environment

  • Cleaning and preparing each milking point for daily use.
  • Proper use and maintenance of cleaning equipment such as:
    - Spade.
    - Broom.
    - Water hose.

Handling of Waste Water

  • Understanding the drainage system and its importance.
  • Steps to remove blockages in the drainage system.
  • Procedures to follow when a blockage cannot be removed.

Removal of Solid Waste to Designated Areas

  • Identifying the location of solid waste disposal sites.
  • Collection and safe disposal of solid waste.
  • Proper cleaning of equipment used for waste removal.

Effective Cleaning of Dairy Utensils

The importance of rapid cooling of freshly drawn milk

  • Why must we cool milk down?
  • The cooling process.
  • Things to watch out for when cooling milk.
UNIT 3

Milk quality

  • Properties of good quality milk.
  • Basic milk testing.
  • Determine the temperature.
  • Report any abnormalities.
UNIT 4

How to milk cows

  • Pre-milking routine.
  • Personal hygiene.
  • Cow cleanliness.
  • Cow preparation.
  • Attach the teat cups to the teats.
  • Remove the teat-cups after milking.
  • Dip all teats.
  • Rinse the teat cups before milking the next cow.
