3-day Basic Plant Production short course │ 7 Van Wouw Street, Groenkloof, Pretoria

This course is presented year-round and is designed to impart the basics of plant production for easy and practical implementation. This course will help you to apply basic plant production skills to your farm to ensure that your venture is as profitable as possible. It will help the new and existing farmer to attain a high level of success in production. You will spend a day visiting a working farm, the remaining two days will consist of theory, including completing a workbook.

This course focuses on generic plant production. This short course will be useful for most crop ventures. A few examples of production crops are cabbage, tomatoes, saffron, avocados, maize, herbs, citrus, grains, etc.

The following Unit Standard will be covered:

  • Define and understand production systems and production management – US 116115: NQF L2, Credits 2

Course Content:

  • Management aspects.
  • Costing and marketing.
  • Plant propagation.
  • Soil health.
  • Pest control.
  • Plant nutrition.
  • Water quality.
  • Structure and function of plants.

Duration: 3 days

Time: 9am – 3pm

Please note: Portfolio of Evidence (workbook) will be completed in class for the 3-day course.
